Richard James "Puggie" Fruehan, age 80, of Saint Augustine Beach, FL and Murrysville, PA, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2022. Beloved husband of the late Marion "Bonnie" (Langan) Fruehan; loving father of Scott Langan (Caroline Baron Myak-Fruehan) Fruehan, Elizabeth (Gregory) Schrett and Rebecca (Michael) Berty; cherished grandfather of Langan Fruehan, Stephanie (Davis) Beasley, Ireland Fruehan, Nicholas Myak, Katherine Schrett, Ethan Berty and Joshua Berty; loving great-grandfather of Baron Beasley and Preston and Pearson Fruehan; caring brother of Florence "Patty" Fruehan. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Mortimor Leroy and Madgalene (Hellreigel) Fruehan; and brother, Mortimor "Pete" Fruehan. Richard received his Ph.D. degree from the University of Pennsylvania, was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at Imperial College London and spent 12 years at U. S. Steel before joining Carnegie Mellon University. He established the Center for Iron and Steelmaking Research (CISR) in 1985 and served as Co-Director. He has published over 200 papers, three books and the holder of seven patents. He was the recipient of numerous international awards and is a member of the National Academy of Engineering. He also loved tennis and the beach. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no visitation or services at this time. Arrangements entrusted to the JOBE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC.
