Gretchen L. Walstrom

Gretchen L. Walstrom, age 92, of Monroeville and Pittsburgh, passed away on Saturday, August 13, 2022. Born to the late Flora and Gunnard Walstrom. She leaves behind her beloved Goddaughter and her family, Alfie Quaglia (Bob) and their children, Michael and Mark Ferguson; and extended family members, Jeannette (ED) McLaughlin, of Kennewick, WA and Kathie Forrest, of Monroeville. Also, her sister, Gloria Antes, of Ohio. She was predeceased by her sister, Violet Savannah and brother, Ted Walstrom. Gretchen retired from Allegheny Ludlum Steel after 25 years in Accounts Receivable, then went on to a 17-year career as Assistant Buyer in Kaufman’s and Macy’s. After that, she worked as a Monroeville School guard for another 17 years at Ramsey Elementary. She was active at St. Bernadette Church, where she was called upon to do anything and everything needed for social functions, fish fry’s, bake sales and even helped to count church collections once a month. She was a member of the Monroeville Senior Citizens and Friends of the Monroeville Public Library for many years. Gretchen was a big sports fan and never missed a Steeler, Pitt or Penguins game when televised. She also kept up with local high school football and more recently, hockey games. She was loved by many and will be missed by all. Friends will be received from 3 – 7 PM Wednesday at the JOBE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, INC. (MONROEVILLE/PLUM CHAPEL) 445 Beatty Road, Monroeville (412-856-4747). Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM Thursday at Christ the Divine Shepherd Parish at St. Bernadette Church. Interment will follow at Good Shepherd Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Harrison City Volunteer Fire Department at 1005 Mill St, Harrison City, PA 15636.
