M. Eileen Rumon, age 85, of Delmont, passed away on Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Overlook Green Assisted Living, Pittsburgh. She was born on November 7, 1937 in Braddock, to Harold Francis and Marguerite (Brodie) Dailey. She lived her entire life in the Greater Pittsburgh area. Eileen is survived by her beloved husband, Kenneth A. Rumon; nine loving children and their spouses, Kevin (Suzanna) Rumon, Jill (Patrick) Lavella, Daniel Rumon, Carrie (Paul) Gross, Maureen (Brendan) Slater, Terence (Diane) Rumon, Dennis (Lisa) Rumon, Megan (Ryan) Sella, and Heather (Mark) Adam; 16 cherished grandchildren and two great-grandsons. In addition to her parents, Eileen was preceded in death by her brother, Paul (Ruth) Dailey. Eileen and Ken were high school sweethearts at Turtle Creek high school and attended the University of Pittsburgh together. Eileen (nursing) and Ken (chemistry) graduated from Pitt in 1960, married and purchased their first and only house in Delmont that year, where they lived the rest of their lives and raised nine children. Eileen worked at Magee Women’s Hospital and several private medical practices throughout her working career. An unwavering Democrat, Eileen volunteered as a Westmoreland County Judge of Elections for many years. In addition to Ken, Eileen made a “til death do us part” commitment to her Pittsburgh Pirates who, unlike Ken, regularly disappointed her. Until her final day, she remained steadfast in her belief that the designated hitter was an unforgivable sin against nature. Eileen was blessed to have been in attendance with her mother at Forbes Field on October 13, 1960 for the legendary Game 7 of the World Series. She considered it to be the height of a sporting life well lived. Friends will be received Friday, September 15, 2023, from 10 to 11:30 AM at Bash-Nied-Jobe Funeral Home, 152 Abbe Place, Delmont (724-468-8381). Funeral Mass will follow at 12 PM at St. John Baptist de La Salle, 497 Athena Drive, Delmont. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Westmoreland Food Bank, 100 Devonshire Drive, Delmont, PA 15626, or to the payroll department of the Pittsburgh Pirates.
